Cookies are tiny, non-malicious text files that are downloaded to a device when certain web pages are visited. On each subsequent visit to a website, cookies are then sent back to the originating website, or to another website that recognises that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device and therefore make the browsing experience more efficient.

We, the International ISBN Agency (IIA), use two different types of cookies on our websites ( and Technical Cookies and Analytical Cookies. Some of the cookies that we use last a very short time and others are more persistent. The first time you visit our site, we will ask for your consent to set our technical and analytical cookies on your device for the purposes specified below.

Technical cookies

Technical cookies are essential in allowing our sites to function correctly so that we can provide the services that are offered to and requested by a user. They are useful in that they enable us to remember information about you so that you don’t have to keep giving it to us again and again.

You can refuse technical cookies by changing the cookie settings in your browser and blocking cookies from a specific site. If you do so, you will still be able to navigate the public parts of our site, but, if you are a registered user, you will not be able to log in using your account and will not have access to any of the private areas of the site. This may mean, for example, that on our Global Register of Publishers you can only carry out simple searches that yield limited details and cannot access the “Advanced Search” areas.
